I’ve noticed a sudden rise in Facebook pages about books. They all follow the same format but have different page names. Basically their structure is:
– a page name that has a short two-word title about books
– a ten point summary or analysis of the book
– an Amazon affiliate link to the book, and
– a random and mediocre internet photo of the book
These pages’ profile and cover pictures also use random and mediocre internet photos about books.
The first time I saw a page like that, I thought the writer was talented and it was a great way to promote reading. I thought the writer had excellent insights into the books as well. Then after noticing several of these pages popping up, I grew suspicious.
Suddenly, it dawned on me that someone is using an AI to create these books reviews. There’s just no way a person can be writing that much in-detail content on a non-stop basis, especially with the amount of thought and knowledge needed to go into such careful literary analysis. And it can’t be a group of writers because the writing style is the same.
Whoever is running these pages has found a super easy way to make money with Amazon affiliate links. As a person who has a real love for literature and dedicates many hours to reading and studying books, I find these pages insulting. This person has reduced literary art to a “get rich quick scheme”. And worst of all, is not disclosing that it’s content is AI-generated.
So there… Our world continues to flourish in fraud and fakery.
